1、another ：“另一个”、“再一个”，用英语解释是：one more 。
例如：
Give me anothey apple.
2、the other 要与 one 搭配使用。
当有“两者”时，指其中一个用 one ， 指另外一个要用the other 。
例如：
I have two kites at home. One is on the wall, the other is on the bookshelf.
3、other 是形容词，作定语，意思是“其它的”、“别的”，其后通常接复数名词。
another 后接单数名词，这是other 与 another 的主要区别。
例如：
English is spoken in England, the U.S., Canada and many other countries.
4、others 在句中用作主语和宾语，其后不接名词，它相当于“ others + 复数名词”，意为“另外的（其余的）人或物”，不特指。
这时常和 some 对照着使用，即 some ... others ...。
例如：

1、another指的是“三者或以上中的另外一个”，一般修饰名词单数。
此时：another =an other。
another 还有一个固定结构：“another + 基数词 + 名词复数 = 基数词 + more + 名词复数”，意思是“另外/再多多少个...”。
如：
1). I want another six apples = I want six more apples
我再（想要）六个苹果
2). This pair of shoes is too big for me . Please show me another pair .
这双鞋子对我来说太大了，请给我另一双。
2、other可作形容词或代词，做形容词时，意思是“别的，其他”，泛指“其他的（人或物）”。
如：
1). Do you have any other question(s)?
你还有其他问题吗？
2). Ask some other people.
问问别人吧！
3、the other 特指两个人或物中的另一个,即one… the other… 一……另一…… ，不能用another，此时的other作代词；the other后可加单数名词，也可加复数名词，此时的other作形容词。
如：
1). He has two daughters. One is a nurse, the other is a teacher .
他有两个女儿，一个是护士，另一个是老师。
2). On the other side of the street，there is a tall tree.
在街道的另一边，有一棵大树。
3). He lives on the other side of the river.
他住在河的对岸。
